Since last December, the National Museum of Natural Sciences has an impressive whale skeleton in the Hall of Biology ceded by the Andalusian government. The whale is more than 20 meters and weighing over 1,500 kilos. It also has a long history until it has reached into the MNCN.

In February 2008, the whale was stranded on the beach waters Cortijo Blanco, Marbella. People were so shocked by the sheer size of the whale did not hesitate to help her with buckets of water. But the mammal and had many internal injuries and a few hours after arriving in the technical environment of the Junta de Andalucía, the animal died on the shore. From then began an intensive preparatory work and taxidermy.

For two long years has removed all the skin and fat from animal to make it absolutely clean and prepare the skeleton for exhibition. The heart of the whale remained in the Science Park of Granada, the tissues in the Natural Park of Doñana and the skeleton, more impressively, has come to the gates of the National Museum of Natural Sciences.

Such notoriety has had a whale of Marbella town hall itself organized a school competition to name it and create a logo associated with it. The name chosen for the secondary school has been the de Vega, in relation to the star that always looks.

But there is no interest in the skeleton of the whale Vega. Numerous national media have been interested in its history, and on 28 March, the National Museum of Natural Sciences (CSIC), introduced the whale skeleton in collaboration with the city of Marbella, Solventia Foundation and The Fish, and we all wanted to learn about how and what is its history.
